Thirty-seven percent of abortions in the U.S. come from African American women, but Black people only make up 12% of the population. Black women have the highest rates of abortion at 50 terminated pregnancies out of 1000 (White women 11 in 1000, Hispanic women 28 in 1000).*
Since the legalization of Roe vs. Wade in 1973, nearly a quarter of all pregnancies in the U.S. have ended in abortion.
With varying reasons for population growth and stagnation within the African American community, Black abortions may have a significant impact. abortions have decreased in the last decade, abortion is still significantly high for women in poor economic conditions
Nearly 25% of all abortions are done because women say they cannot afford another responsibility
most Planned Parenthood clinics and abortions facilities are located in low-income and urban communities, where the population is predominantly Black and Hispanic
abortion is the number one killer of Black people today. abortion has killed more Black people than AIDS, cancer, and heart disease combined since 1973
