There are three key facts that place the brinkmanship being played out on the Korean peninsula into perspective.

US spy planes fly high. US strategic nuclear missiles are targeted. To think that north Korea poses a danger to south Korea is to think idiotically.

The north recognize the gross imbalance. They try to develop the most formidable deterrents it can while seeking peace. north Korean transformed by echo chamber from a non-threat into one where the leadership is mad and unpredictable. Only in this way can a weak country be turned into a danger

second key fact: United States has sought destruction of the north for 60 years
- Isolate diplomatically
- Subject to the longest campaign of economic warfare in modern history
- Continually threaten to place it on a constant war footing that depletes its resources and cripples its economy.

third key fact: right-wing Lee Myung-bak is more closely aligned with US policy on north Korea than two previous govt. Lee wants to see north Korea’s collapse and its absorption by the south, while two other favored detente. Lee was chairman and CEO of Hyundai. Goad is to save from “leftist, anti-U.S. and pro-north Korean elements included former presidents who pursued policies of coexistence and worked toward an eventual confederation. Lee is committed to a policy of confrontation, heightened tensions and subordination of the north to the south. Lee restored designation of north Korea as the ROK’s archenemy. Lee’s local reputation is one of a US puppet betraying Korean interests. tens of thousands in central Seoul, 2008 largest antigovernment protest in 20 years, barricade with shipping containers. coated with oil, filled with sandbags, could not march on President Lee Myung-bak’s office. people placed this message on the shipping containers, ‘This is a new border for our country. From here starts the U.S. state of South Korea.’ Korea’s No. 1 national traitor. Lee has become ‘a Korean leader kowtowing to the Americans.’

the rising tensions re the outcome of the Lee government’s policy of seeking the collapse of north Korea in order to absorb it. Seoul has turned reality on its head and presented all its provocations as self-defense against north Korean aggression. the Cheonan was sunk in shallow waters. Lee quickly manoeuvred to blame. his own military initially denied a torpedo was involved. Lee said his intuition told him a north Korean torpedo was behind the sinking. Washington too exploited the tragedy.

In November north Korea shelled. Washington portrayed the shelling as an unprovoked act. south had fired live artillery into waters belong to north Korea. north Korean retaliation South Korean violation of north Korean territorial waters. Coincided with south Korean manoeuvres involving 70,000 ROK, backed by US Marines. For Pyongyang is could have been a rehearsal for an invasion. how could the DPRK generals distinguish a rehearsal for an invasion from preparation for a real one? south Korea’s live artillery fire was highly aggressive act. On top of that North Korea had to enforce its claim to sovereignty.

Just days ago, 24 December 2010, ROK repeated firing live, same island. US Marines to be present. Seoul warned that a north Korean response, US and south Korean air strikes on north Korean. Pyongyang wisely refrained.

Seoul’s alignment with Washington’s strategy of maintaining unceasing pressure on Pyongyang has been evident in other ways. Lee government has appointed a minister of unification, “south Korea to carve out...and market economy as values.” Imagine if Pyongyang said it was going to carve out. the word “tongil” was emblazoned on the headbands

Beijing is encouraging Chinese firms to heavily invest in electricity, coal and gas-oil projects in Indonesia. CNOOC, China’s major offshore oil producer, has reported that its investment in the country will exceed $5.6 billion by 2011. In 2009, Chinese direct investment grew by 29 percent.

On the eve of Obama’s visit, a Chinese delegation led by National People’s Congress head Wu Bangguo pledged a further $6.6 billion of investments in infrastructure and development projects, outdoing the US financial commitments by a factor of 20-to-1.

UIGHUR PSUEDO GANG IN PLAY

Turkestan Islamic Party is the same group as East Turkestan Islamic Party, ETIP. They removed the “East”. group’s founder, Hasan Mahsum was killed by Pakistani army in 2003.

Apr 2009, the US designated Abdul Haq as leader of TIP. The UN made a similar pronouncement. Abdul Haq, also known as Maimaitiming Maimaiti, succeeded Hasan Masum in 2003.

In January 2010, a Predator killed 15 TIP in Waziristan. Some said Abdul Haq was among those killed. There has been an uptick in Qaeda urging Muslims to attack China

INSURGENCY IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN

“The invader's strategy must be one of lightning war. If we can hold out for three or more years, it will be most difficult for them to bear up under the strain.”

Mao's concepts of guerrilla warfare were later translated (in the 1961 book “On Guerrilla Warfare,” by S. B. Griffith) into three phases of insurgency.

Mao said that during the first phase of insurgency, the infrastructure of guerrilla warfare is developed: a recruiting campaign, repositioning of weapons and munitions, and a new ideology of resistance and a propaganda apparatus to spread the ideology.
All this happened in Iraq.

The US and other likely counter-insurgents are fortunate that most revolutionaries find it easier and “cooler” to follow leaders like Guevara than Mao. The protracted revolutionary war theory dictated by Mao is certainly more universal and effective for the majority of strategic settings but the idea has to be solid.

I would even propose that the “war of ideas” should have four components rather than two –

• the idea,

• the individual experience of the leader,

• the sales package, and the

• sales methods.

The final piece involving communication techniques that stimulates emotions and invokes passion in the people will establish the power base.

The idea itself is the core of the political phase, and since a lot of time is spent in this phase following guerrilla and conventional warfare setbacks, it must never be diluted. This demands charismatic and dynamic leadership. Therefore the perfect blend of a Guevara type “cool guy” and a Mao theory would ensure the best results for an upstart revolutionary.

Yes, the political movement must occur before the guerrilla operations and the leader must set the conditions for shifts in priority of effort between phases; however the very nature of the leader is key in a society that puts a lot of emphasis on the short term solution.

Mao’s theory is predicated on the idea that success may take decades to achieve. Additionally, he planned to have setbacks.

the coalition forces must win the war of ideas in the political realm in both Afghanistan and Pakistan to achieve long term success in the region.

Insurgency is a “survival” phase. Mao defines insurgency, the infrastructure of guerrilla warfare developed by recruiting, repositioning of weapons and munitions, and a new ideology of resistance and a propaganda apparatus to spread the ideology

small-scale offensive to shake the determination of the invading forces, attempted
by the use of roadside bombings, rocket-propelled grenade assaults and sniper attacks.

Point #1 – Protracted Campaign, revolutionary war meant millions dead. This required revolutionary endurance to frustrate the efforts of a large, modern Western Army. who support their ideological pursuits. avoid one-on-one conventional confrontation with Coalition forces, used a wide range of violence, terrorist attacks, and methods of guerrilla warfare to attrit Coalition resolve and to excite additional popular support

the process of recruiting and organizing popular support. Who is the best salesman of ideas? you have to win the war of ideas.

the “Foco” revolutionary war theory jumps the first step of the Mao war theory. “Che” got success due to unique characteristics for that time. The political mobilization and support of the populace was completed before Che and Fidel started with the guerrilla operation.

strategic victory is not determined by tactical success alone. One must understand the importance of gaining popular support. In iraq, One major difference from the theory is that although the insurgent groups are small, most of them do not have overwhelming support of the local population.

The first phase would be considered the “survival” phase. This is relevant in relation to Iraq. The start of the insurgency when major combat operations ended

• recruiting campaign,
• repositioning of weapons and munitions
• new ideology of resistance and a propaganda apparatus to spread the ideology

followed by

• small-scale offensive, which consisted of IEDs, rocket-propelled grenade assaults and sniper attacks
• to rally support for the insurgents at home and abroad,

If there is a successful first phase, the second phase can progress

• larger-scale offensive activity
• carefully planned, coordinated attacks
• important human targets
• intelligence-gathering capability grows more sophisticated,
• frequent and deadly activity
  

insurgency also grows decentralized. killing or capture or key individuals, less significant

The last phase is the decisive stage. this phase has not taken place in Iraq. insurgents will remain in the current phase.

insurgency warfare is meant to convince the enemy’s decision-makers that victory was too costly and give up.

Mao succeeded in portraying himself as an ally to the peasants and an enemy to landowners, businessmen, and Imperialism. insurgents we face today lack the commitment to stand their ground for the protracted fight

***guerilla warfare tactics routinely target the same civilian population that they desire to influence, which in reality does nothing less than counter their message***

***the U.S. faces in the GWOT are opportunists and thugs, not revolutionaries
trying to undermine the new governments. They are fighting only because the U.S. is involved.

Taliban is not trying to free the people from Karzai. They want to get back into power for themselves, purely financially motivated***

do not do near as good of a job at influencing the population. They do it out of fear, rather than making themselves seen as heroes to the peasantry. Just as LaCour stated, these are a group of thugs for the most part who are simply in it for themselves and relish any event to attack the U.S. – not revolutionaries.

The film is a personal portrait of Roza Otunbayeva, now the interim leader of Kyrgyzstan. It tells the story of the failed 2005 ‘revolution’ and also describes the anger and disillusionment of the population, leading towards the overthrow of the president 7 April 2010. I believe the film gives people who may not be that well-acquainted with Kyrgyzstan a much better idea of the situation and of the country’s new leader.

It’s definitely interesting, if for no other reason than to see how things in Kyrgyzstan so often seem to just go in circles.

One does not have to be a supporter of the Beijing Stalinist regime to realize the reactionary character of such plans. The "color revolution" regimes have all proven to be unpopular and anti-democratic pawns of Washington, with Yushchenko being voted out in the recent Ukrainian election. In China—an enormous state, riven by internal ethnic, regional and class divisions—such a policy by the US would pose the risk of unleashing large-scale violence and civil war.

Ironically, Dalai Lama who headed the so-called "Free-Tibet" movement, is himself not so free from the CIA manipulation ever since he fled China in the 50's.

The Dalai Lama has been on the CIA payroll since the late 1950s. It is important to understand this longer than half-a-century relationship between the Dalai Lama and the US intelligence agency in analyzing the recent turmoil in Tibet.

From the late 50's until 1974, the Dalai Lama had been on the CIA's payroll, reportedly receiving 180,000 USD a year. Besides that, his government set up in exile in Northern India had also received US$1.7 million a year from the CIA. The money was paid for guerrilla operations against the Chinese.

Today, his government-in-exile's funding comprises seven departments and several other special offices including charitable trusts, a publishing company, hotels in India and Nepal and a handicrafts distribution company in the US and in Australia.

The government was involved in running 24 businesses in all, but decided in 2003 that it would withdraw from these because such commercial involvement was not appropriate.

Many donations are channeled through the New York-based Tibet Fund, set up in 1981 by Tibetan refugees and US citizens. It has grown into a multi-million-dollar organization that disburses $US3 million each year to its various programs.

Part of its funding comes from the US State Department's Bureau for Refugee Programs
